The 'long neck' Villages

In addition to the two Karenni camps, Karenni also live in three 'tourist villages' in the Mae Hong Son area.
The villages are: Kayar Tayar (Nai Soi, located near Karenni camp Site 1), Huay Sua Thao and Huay Pu Keng.
The Karenni in these villages mostly belong to the Kayan and Kayaw ethnic groups. Kayan refugees first came to Huay Pu Keng in 1988 due to a Burmese military offensive. For additional security, in 1992 many moved to Kayan Tayar camp and several families moved to Huay Sua Thao in 1995.
KSDP supports the village of Huay Pu Keng, funding the village's kindergarten, primary and middle school, donating clothes, toys and other supplies whenever possible and providing help, support and advice when needed. KSDP built two new school buildings in Huay Pu Keng in 2008.
